The garbage strike in Toronto continues on. The strike, which began on Monday June 22nd, is the first since union workers went on strike in 2001. To check out what's open and what's closed during the strike click here.
The city has announced the temporary opening of various dump sites throughout the city in an attempt to cut down on illegal dumping. (By the way: illegal dumping means a minimum fine of $380. The maximum fine is $10,000 for individuals and $50,000 for businesses.) What does all this mean? Well union officials says the opening of these sites signal that the city is preparing for a long strike. The question is the city ready for one.
Here is an updated look at where you can bring you garbage during the city-wide strike: * When bringing materials for disposal, combine Green Bin materials with other garbage, place in securely tied, double plastic bags and bring to any of the drop-off locations.
