Matters are complicated by the imaginary characters invented by both men to cover their on-the-sly activities – not to mention the disapproval of Gwendolen’s mother, the formidable Lady Bracknell.
Three Sisters Tom Patterson Theatre – 111 Lakeside Drive, Stratford Previews begin: May 9 June 3 - October 3, 2009 Raised amid the splendours of Moscow, sisters Olga, Masha and Irina now live with their brother Andrey in a dull provincial town. Julius Caesar Avon Theatre – 99 Downie Street, Stratford Previews begin: May 23 June 6 - October 17, 2009 Caesar, the most popular general in Rome, is assassinated, leaving two men – the honourable Brutus and the ambitious Cassius – to divide the spoils. Bartholomew Fair Tom Patterson Theatre – 111 Lakeside Drive, Stratford Previews begin: May 27 June 4 - October 2, 2009 Anything can happen (and usually does) at Bartholomew Fair, where fraudsters and pickpockets thrive and Ursula the pig-woman trades in more than one kind of flesh. Neither respectability nor Puritan zeal are proof against its snares – and no one who partakes in this licentious revel will ever be quite the same again.
Cyrano de Bergerac Festival Theatre – 55 Queen Street, Stratford Previews begin: May 29 June 19 - November 1, 2009 Despite his swashbuckling heroism and rapier wit, Cyrano thinks himself unworthy – because of his enormous nose – to be loved by the beauteous Roxane. Instead, he uses his gift for language to woo her for his comrade-in-arms, Christian. But when tragedy strikes, will Cyrano take his secret to the grave?
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum Avon Theatre – 99 Downie Street, Stratford Previews begin: June 11 June 20 - November 1, 2009 In ancient Rome, the slave Pseudolus yearns for freedom, while his young master pines for the girl next door. Ever Yours, Oscar Phedre Tom Patterson Theatre – 111 Lakeside Drive, Stratford Previews begin: June 19 June 20 - August 29, 2009 At the height of his career, Oscar Wilde was the toast of London. The Trespassers Studio Theatre – 34 George Street East, Stratford Previews begin: July 26 August 21 - October 4, 2009 Fifteen-year-old Lowell is no average teenager – and his grandfather, Hardy, is no conventional role model. Whether urging the boy to pilfer a neighbour’s peaches, arranging his sexual initiation, or teaching him the finer points of poker, Hardy is the despair of Lowell’s born-again mother, Cash. But how far into forbidden territory has Lowell actually ventured?
A Midsummer Night’s Dream Festival Theatre – 55 Queen Street, Stratford Previews begin: Aug 7 August 21 - October 30, 2009 In an enchanted forest, a quartet of mismatched lovers and a gang of hapless actors cross paths with the king and queen of the fairies, resulting in a night of moonlit mirth. Love triumphs at dawn – but not before trickster Puck has had his way with all.
Rice Boy Studio Theatre – 34 George Street East, Stratford Previews begin: Aug 11 August 22 - October 3, 2009 Confined to her home in India, 16-year-old Tina, a paraplegic, draws patterns on the ground with rice flour as she awaits an arranged marriage to a man she has never met.
