Summer 2008 Guide

It's summer time! The kids are off school and bored. Not sure what to do? Here are a few of our fave summer family friendly events to check out in the city. Grab the kids and have some fun!
Let's Go To The EX!
"Let's go to the EX! (oh baby!)" Of course one of the highlights of summer in Toronto is the annual Canadian National Exhibition and guess what… This year the CNE celebrates its 130th anniversary! Starting Friday August 15th Exhibition Place turns into the place for fun for the whole family. If you haven't been you can expect acres of rides, midway games, exhibits, exciting attractions, events and much more. If you have been we don't need to convince you why you need to check it out again this year!

Catch A Ride!
Not into the EX? Well hop in the car and head north because there is an endless list of things to do at Canada's Wonderland. Rides, concerts… Not to mention "Splash Works", the 20 acre water park with over two million gallons of water to cool you and your family down all summer long.
Of course the big news at Canada's largest amusement park is the arrival of their newest ride… The Behemoth. Remember this thrilling ride, like most of the theme parks roller coasters, is meant for older kids. And trust us they will love it. If you've got younger kids there is still plenty to do. There are three areas just for little kids (Nickelodeon Central, Kidzville and Hanna-Barbera Land) to hang out. Plus they can play with Dora the Explorer, Sponge Bob Square Pants or Scooby Doo!

Parks And Skateboardin'
Not into roller coasters? On the more relaxing side you can always head to a public park. (You can view our profiles of parks around the city here) Pack a lunch, make a picnic basket. Remember, a cooler is indispensable for keeping food fresh. If you use freezer packs, don't forget to add a bag of ice. The cubes not only keep the cooler chilled, they can be popped into drinks later.
Of course many of the parks throughout the city offer summer programs for kids. Be sure to check for details and summer programs.
If the kids are into skateboarding you can always drop them off at Cummer Skateboard Park for the day. This park is specifically designed with youth in mind and was constructed to address the needs of the skateboarding community both in the local area and across Toronto.

Need To Take A Dip?
Need some cooling off from the crazy summer fun. There is nothing that kids love more than a good swim on a hot summer day. No pool? Well no need to worry. You could head up to Canada's Wonderland's Splash Works or Wild Water Kingdom but there are other options too. We've searched the city and found these family friendly public pools... They are perfect and they are the perfect places to check out to cool the kids down. Of course the best part is… Every single one of them... They are all free:

Don't get stung!
Well actually there is no fear of being stung with the Toronto Zoo's exclusive "Stingray Bay" exhibit! The Toronto Zoo is always a popular summer destination for families but this year there is another good excuse to check out the zoo. This summer kids and parents are able to safely interact with Cownose and Southern Stingrays at the zoo's new interactive exhibit! Trust us the kids will go nuts as they get the opportunity to take part in special feedings and learn all about the graceful animals. Absolutley amazing!
