The area around this iconic shopping centre doesn't offer a fantastic selection of restaurants, but there are definitely a few places that won't leave you disappointed. If it's quick and dirty that you want, look on the mall map and head to the food court, but it’s not recommended.

Better than Spring Rolls and within walking distance, Salad King reigns with a gentle hand, offering simple Thai food at its best. All of the usual suspects are here—curries, noodles and spring rolls—and all are excellent. You can order most dishes on a spicy scale that ranges from 1 –20, but even if you like it hot, don't be too brave, as 20 will leave you in tears.

Pan Asian is the menu at this ever-popular Toronto chain, with a focus on Thai and Vietnamese dishes. Spring rolls are good, but shrimp rolls are better. Both go well with the house mango salad and famous or curry pad Thai noodles. Rice dishes are decent too. Good spot for a quick lunch or dinner and somewhat less crowded and noisy than its close cousin, Salad King.

Open since 1948, The Senator is Toronto's oldest restaurant, making it classic in every way. Half-pound burgers come topped with your choice of caramelized onions, homemade corn relish, Swiss or Cheddar cheese and bacon. Two big pieces of halibut light-coated in beer batter and served with chips are perfection. Cobb and Nicoise salads are big enough for two and the macaroni and cheese is the best in town. An all day breakfast is also available for those with a hangover.

The specialty here is traditional southern Italian food with a focus on thin crust pizza. For an appetizer, try cantaloupe and prosciutto, carpaccio or caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella. When it comes to mains, simple toppings belie the complex choice you'll be faced when selecting one of the 29 kinds of pizza. Pasta and pannini sandwiches are also stars. Just remember there are no wrong answers here.
