Tori Amos

October 2007

Before Tori Amos plays the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, Justin Haley takes a look at pianist, singer-songwriter and diva Tori Amos...

Tori Amos has been called everything from a crazed genius to a woodland nymph—get ready to witness her many personas when her American Doll Posse World Tour hits town. Anchored in the goddesses of Greek mythology anchor, five distinct sensibilities each take on their own voice on the new album and, we expect, on stage. After centuries of witnessing control and manipulation fo women's bodies, Amos and her posses are ready to bring their own voices and opinions to the swirl of debate on politics, economics and women’s place in the world today.

Amos has always been a diva; a fabulous diva with a refreshingly progressive attitude and mind-set, and her musical prose are as strong as her opinions. "Being a preacher's daughter, I understood the politic of religion and so I really began to see how now that we're in a very right-wing Christian time," Amos says on her official website (http://www.toriamos.com). "Women are divided into the mother and the whore. It's very black and white. As a piano player, I understand black and white very well. And it's just not acceptable outside of a keyboard."

Tori Amos plays The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts on October 23rd.
