Michael Buble

January 2008

Michael Bublé is a charmer; a bona fide ladies man one could say. Fans swoon for this Canadian icon and one can easily see why. He is witty, adorably cute and has a persona that is quite infectious. The appeal of the Burnaby, British Columbia native as an entertainer initially resonates from his music, which is sensually jazzy and old school in texture and song choice (Bublé was first discovered by producing legend David Foster at the wedding of Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's daughter). He has made a surprisingly commercially successful career at rerecording and remixing jazz favourites of the past. His baritone voice is rich, hearty, and undeniably strong. However, any Michael Bublé fan can tell you that his fresh, charismatic and suave personality is equally as endearing as his tunes.

In a business that garners excessive arrogance among young male artists, Bublé's positive energy and kind spirit is a welcomed change. He is a confident young man who can be quite soul soothing with his crooning tenor, but contrastingly, offers a refreshingly quirky sense of humour on stage and off. This guy really knows how to work a crowd.

His new album (title "Call Me Irresponsible") is filled with all the classics you would expect and sets the stage for his highly anticipated 2008 world tour, which he calls "my remark on the state of love". From Leonard Cohen, Eric Clapton, Cy Coleman, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, to a small collection of original work (some co-written by the ever-so talented Jann Arden), Bublé has a wealth of romance and emotional appeal to work with.

The boy who grew up listening to his grandfather's collection of jazz records was made for the stage, and those attending his January 24th concert at the Air Canada Centre will see why. From random dancing fits to candid conversation Buble is at home on stage, "I just love being in front of people," He says. "It's so important to be in touch with your audience. They've paid their money. I want them to be entertained. If they want to cry or laugh or dance or sing or yell, they can do whatever they want. My responsibility is just to take them away."

Michael Bublé: a true gentleman one could say.
