Justin Timberlake has It. Even the harshest rock critics cannot refute the fact that he encompasses the essential It characteristics of a bona-fide mega superstar: style, soul, and a mysterious, undeniably sexy attitude. He’s a triple threat, able to sing, dance and, as proven in the films Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan, act, too.
Timberlake has played it smart. His carefully planned sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll star persona is one thing, but unlike many celebrities of his age, Timberlake is genuinely respected for his authentic and highly progressive sound. Aural massages by powerhouse producers Timberland, Danja, and Rick Rubin and collaborations with the likes of T.I., Three 6 Mafia, and Snoop Dogg have helped FutureSex/LoveSounds cross strict genre boundaries. The 7.3 million selling album is a potpourri of various beats and lyrical composition, incorporating elements of rock, R & B, funk, and hip-hop. Although it is a product of pop art the soul of the album is organic, refreshingly layered with a dark yet smooth edge.
His sound has a flavour for anyone's palate, and his ability to gain respect and appreciation across genres is really a testament to Timberlake's creative drive and talent. The man has proven himself by pushing the norms, and displaying a fearless attitude. Timberlake has worked hard to earn credos from different musical spectrums, and his persistence has paid off.
2007 has been quite good to Mr. Timberlake, proving that the young man is the most prominent artist of our generation. His current tour (which hits Toronto’s ACC on August 20th and 21st) is No. 2 in concert grosses this year, and FutureSex/LoveSounds has spent 45 weeks on the Billboard albums chart. His current movie, Shrek the Third, is the second highest grossing film of the year, with over 300 million at the domestic box-office. Furthermore, his unpredictable behaviour, from public temper tantrums to scandalous love affairs with hot A-list bombshells has done nothing but increase the public’s hypnotic attraction for him.
Just when you thought Timberlake couldn’t get any sexier, he quietly entered a London, England studio in June and July with the one and only Madonna in tow. Rumors have been swirling regarding their upcoming collaboration, and both have confirmed their joint songwriting is going nicely. It seems there isn’t much JT can't do but become more and more prolific. As a triple threat, Timberlake is fierce.
