More than a rock concert, the True Colors Tour is Lauper's latest statement against hate and ignorance towards the world's gay and lesbian communities. The goal of the True Colors Tour is a mutual solidarity against the continued discrimination of LGBT peoples, a call for equality, and to raise public awareness about the issues worldwide. Proceeds from each ticket will go to the Human Rights Campaign, PFLAG and the Matthew Sheppard Foundation. Special guests on the tour appearing in select cities include Rosie O’Donnell, Rufus Wainwright, Sam Harris, and the Indigo Girls.

With Pride just around the corner, it is important to acknowledge the social importance of this historic musical event. Although we have the luxury of being a progressive nation here in Canada one must not forget that the fight for individual rights around the world is far from being complete. As Ms Cho would say "A government that would deny a gay man the right to bridal registry is a fascist state..." (Margaret Cho in Notorius C.H.O., 2000)

Men and women are still killed, alienated, and fired from the employment for simply their sexual orientation. We must continue to fight and conquer the fear mongering and uneducated peoples of society who choose to hate rather than love and accept the diversities we as humans embody. Lauper is a musical goddess at the mic—her drive to demolish lingering prejudice by throwing a rock concert is just damn cool.
