The first Santa Claus Parade took place on Saturday December 2, 1905 as a publicity stunt to herald Santa's arrival at the Eaton's store. Mr and Mrs Timothy Eaton met Santa at the station and walked him to the Eaton's store as a few hundred people watched from the street.
In subsequent years, Santa's arrival became more extravagant and today it is one of Toronto's most anticipated events!
The Parade Route:
The Santa Claus Parade starts at the corner of Bloor Street and Christie Street and runs east along Bloor Street to Avenue Road, along Avenue Road, around Queen's Park Crescent, and further south along University Avenue to Queen Street. At Queen Street the Parade heads east to Yonge Street, south along Yonge Street and east along Front Street. The Parade ends at the corner of Front and Church Streets.
