The Gibson House Museum lets visitors step back in time to when the elegant farmhouse was built by the Gibson family in 1851. The serene Georgian exterior is a testament to the dramatic lives of the household.
Scottish immigrant David Gibson, a land surveyor, mapped early Toronto and helped prepare Ontario's wilderness for settlement. Gibson was forced to flee to the United states after the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837, but returned 11 years later to build the Gibson House.
The museum activities include guided tours, education and community programs, hearth-cooking classes, birthday parties, summer Arts and Heritage Camps, Doors Open Toronto, holiday celebrations and guided explorations of the museum.
