About Toronto - Getting Around
Toronto Transit Commission
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is the public transit system the moves millions of Torontonians and tourists around the city every single day. In fact so many people are travelling around on Toronto's network of buses, streetcars and subways that it is one of the largest transit system’s in North America.

The Toronto subway system consists of:

- The U-shaped Yonge-University-Spadina Line which runs north and south
- The Bloor-Danforth Line which runs east and west
- The Scarborough RT (a partly elevated light rail line) which continues from the Bloor-Danforth Line's eastern terminus
- The Sheppard Line which runs east and west from Sheppard Station

Toronto’s bus and streetcar system also plays a large role in moving people around the city. Many streets across downtown still have old tracks which streetcars run on. Elsewhere Toronto's bus system is easily accessed. Both buses and streetcars cover hundred of square kilometers and linking up with the subway allowing passengers to transfer seamlessly between buses, streetcars and subways without paying extra fares for crossing zones.

The TTC offers 24 hour service daily, throughout Toronto to help you arrive to your final destination wherever that may be!

Additional Information

- You need a ticket, token, metropass, transfer or exact cash on all buses, streetcars or subways. Transit operators do not sell fares or carry change. Tickets and tokens must be purchased at a collector booth.

- If your trip involves connecting routes (transfering from a subway train to a streetcar or bus, etc) you will require a transfer. Transfers are available in subway stations where you can get one from an automated transfer machine after you pay your fare. On buses and streetcars transfers are available from the Operator after you pay your fare.

- The TTC also runs Wheel-Trans, a paratransit service for the physically disabled with special low-floor buses designed to accommodate wheelchairs and to make boarding easier.

- The TTC offers a "Request Stop Program" on bus routes between 9:00pm and 5:00am. Female passengers travelling alone can request the driver to stop at points between bus stops.
